About Us
The Democracy Foundation Basel is based in Basel, Switzerland. It is registered in the commercial register of the Canton of Basel-Stadt under the number CHE-448.577.352 and is subject to supervision by the BSABB BVG and Foundation Supervisory Authority of both Basels (BSABB BVG- und Stiftungsaufsicht beider Basel), in accordance with Article 84 of the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB).
The foundation’s mission, on a non-profit basis, is to promote liberal democracy, particularly by supporting political education and the participation of young people and young adults. It actively works against social and political polarization and supports reforms and the further development of democratic practices.
The foundation operates in the Basel region, throughout Switzerland, and internationally, either independently or in collaboration with other institutions. It can organize events or provide financial contributions to enable them, support or carry out non-profit activities—particularly in research, education, social engagement, communication, and culture—and undertake any activities that directly or indirectly serve its mission or the management of its funds.
Additionally, the foundation can support and engage in charitable activities if they contribute to a free, just, and peaceful society. The foundation does not pursue individual interests or economic gain.
Background and History of the Democracy Foundation Basel

The Democracy Foundation Basel was founded in October 2024 by Andreas Zivy. He manages the foundation’s operations and serves as the president of the board of trustees.
